Legal Marriage in Cancun for Foreigners

We’ll guide you through the process so that your civil wedding is valid in your country. A marriage celebrated in Mexico is recognized internationally as long as the procedure is done correctly and with proper documentation.

What documents do foreigners need for a civil wedding in Cancun in year 2025?

• Valid passports
• Optional: Birth certificates translated into Spanish and apostilled
• Optional: Divorce or death certificates (if applicable), translated and apostilled
• Record of not owe alimony in Mexico
• Medical certificate and blood test done in Mexico
• Fill out the marriage application

Note: If any of the documents are not in Spanish, a certified translation could be required ( an authorized expert translator from the state of Quintana Roo required), ask for which

Do we need witnesses?

Yes, 4 witnesses over 18 years old with valid IDs. If you don't bring your own, we can provide them.

How long do we need to be in Cancun before the wedding?

We recommend arriving at least 2 business days before the ceremony to complete paperwork and medical exams.

Will our marriage be valid in our country?

Yes, the marriage certificate we provide is official and must be legalized and/or apostilled to be valid internationally (we can help you with the apostille).

How can we start the process?

Contact us to review your specific case and start preparing the documents. We’ll take care of appointments, translations, and coordination. We need start at least 10 business days before the wedding day. You will receive your marriage certificate at the end of the ceremony but is only valid in Mexico. The apostilled certificate will be sent to you within 2 to 3 weeks.
